Alcea, or more commonly called Hollyhocks, have tall stalks with multiple blooms that open from the bottom up over the growing season. Hollyhocks are a staple of old-timey, country gardens. They have been used in gardens for a very long time.

The blooms are fully double and make for an impressive garden display. They open from the bottom of the stem up over the summer and have a long blooming period. Their blooms attract butterflies and hummingbirds.

Due to their tall size, alcea do best when planted in the back of flower beds, They also benefit from support by staking or planting near a structure they can be tied up to or lean against.

Alceas are a short lived perennial but they will reseed themselves for years. Remove old flowers if you don’t want them to reseed. They like evenly moist soil and do not like to completely dry out.

Plant in full sun 12-18″ apart. Grows 4′ to 6′ tall.

We offer Alcea in our Quart Perennial size in three colors: Chaters Double Red have double blooms in shades of red and scarlet; Chaters Double Violet have violet-purple; double blooms. Chaters Double Yellow Alcea have double yellow blooms.

Due to them blooming later in the season we do not have any images of the blooms.
