Archive for April, 2010

Here we are again a week before Mother’s Day – give or take a couple of days.  March crawled by with cold and snow then April flew by with some perfect weather at least until this week.  Now May is here.  Even though May is here now we have been working on Fall and Poinsettia production scheduling since February.  Soon you will be hearing from us regarding Fall and seeing if you want to book any pansies or mums with us., but we’ll let you get through Mother’s Day and give you time after to catch your breath before we call.

We are heading into the big basket week with a pretty good basket availability as well as a great selection of our normal items.  I am particularly liking the #12 Trailing Petunia baskets and #12 Trailing Petunia Combo baskets which look really nice now.  We have good numbers on our #4 Vinca and Begonias for those of you who have landscaping divisions.  Plus we have quite a few of our popular #10 Hanging Baskets ready to go as well as a new crop of Confetti Garden baskets and #6 pots.

Here is next week availability: avail-5.03

And some more pictures for you.

These are our #12 Trailing Petunia Baskets.  They average about 33” across.

Yesterday was steady but no where near the chaos of last week.  I guess the rain and cooler temperatures have slowed things down some.

Rusty Red Sweet Potato Vine

So far this has been one of the best years we have had in quite a while.  The exceptionally cold winter, the beginnings of an economic recovery and a continued surge in more people gardening has made this a very busy spring.

One of the down sides to a great spring season is that you cannot plan for it.  By the time we know it’s a great spring, everything has been planted so we can’t increase production.  Another issue is delivery.  We don’t know that we will get 200 orders on a Monday until it happens and therefore can’t plan for the loading.  All we can do is react and do the best we can.  All of this means that during the busiest weeks we do not have enough of some items and we are not be able to get everyone delivered on the day they need it.
