Brussels Sprouts produce dozens of little “sprouts” that resemble miniature cabbages. They are densely packed along the stem or trunk, between the petioles of the leaves. If left on the plant they would eventually develop into flowering shoots. These plants flourish in moist, humus enriched soil. Moderately firm soil with good drainage is needed. Brussels Sprouts aren’t as frost hardy as Cabbage. Pluck or snip off the firm sprouts, working up from the base of the plant. Aphids or plant lice can destroy a crop; if they appear, start spraying with an insecticidal soap, which is nontoxic and effective.
Size: Available in 1204 in the spring and J6 in the fall.

Height: Grows 8″ to 12″ tall.

Tips: Harvest sprouts when they are no larger than 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter, before the leaves yellow.
