Description: If you want to cover a LOT of ground then this is the hosta for you!  Sum and Substance has huge chartreuse leaves that are rounded and wavy.  They provide a lot of color in your shady areas.  In mid to late summer lavender blooms emerge on tall stems.  Hostas are extremely popular, hardy herbaceous perennials grown primarily for their beautiful foliage. They are easy to grow, shade-tolerant plants.  The plants are low maintenance.  Hostas originally came from Japan, China, and Korea.  They were first introduced to Europe in the late 1700s and then came to the United States in the middle 1800s.

Spacing: Plant 6′ to 8′ apart.

Height: Grows 29″ to 36″ tall.

How To Grow: Plant in full shade to part sun.

Outstanding Features: Sum and Substance fills a large space.  Resistant to slugs. Hosta of the Year in 2004.

Tips: Needs a little sun to enhance the golden color.

Uses: Garden Bed, Containers, Borders, Landscapes
