Burgundy Verbena

*We no longer grow this item, but feel free to peruse the information.

Empress Flair Burgundy Verbena blooms in clusters of five lobed, burgundy flowers. The dark green leaves are small and have serrated edges.  Empress Flair has a trailing habit and looks great cascading over the side of baskets, patio pots or garden wall. The foliage stays dense to the ground making this plant great for the landscape also. The bright bloom clusters will attract nectar-loving critters such as butterflies and hummingbirds.  If your plant gets leggy or slows in blooming, just trim the dead flower clusters or cut the plant back a bit.  Powdery mildew is sometimes a problem for Verbena.  Some varieties have been improved to have a higher tolerance but it is still a good idea to give your plant plenty of air flow to help prevent and rotting.  Keep them evenly moist, not soggy, and try to not let them dry out.  Verbena has a vigorous habit that excels in hanging baskets and patio containers but can also be planted as a single specimen or with other plants in combinations. Wherever you choose to plant them, they will always supply more than just a splash of color.
