Ajuga reptans ‘Bronze Beauty’ or carpet bugle is a low-growing and fast-spreading perennial ground cover. Mainly used for its deep burgundy foliage, Ajuga also blooms with small spikes of blue flowers in the spring. It’s fall color is a striking reddish bronze and can hold its leaves all winter.
Ajuga is tough and can withstand some light foot traffic. Deer and rabbits tend to leave this perennial alone but hummingbirds and butterflies are drawn to the bloom spikes. It finds most soil conditions tolerable just make sure the area drains well. Ajuga doesn’t like wet feet. These plants are hardy in zones 3-9.
Spacing: Plant 10″ to 12″ apart.
Height: Grows 4” to 6” tall.
