Parks Brothers Farm, Inc. is looking for a talented and motivated individual with experience in trucking to join our team. The environment is fast-paced, and you will have the ability to make decisions that matter.

As our transportation manager you will use a combination of education, experience and leadership skills to schedule deliveries to our customers.

We are an established wholesale greenhouse, and have been in business over 50 years. We grow bedding plants and vegetables that we supply to customers in 10 states in a 600 mile radius.

This is an opportunity to join a family business with a family atmosphere. Most our management and sales team have been with our company up to a decade or longer.

Our current Transportation Manager works in transportation when we are shipping then in greenhouse maintenance in the off seasons. We ship March through May and September through October and mid-November through mid- December.

There are several ways this job could work for you:

  • Full time – work in transportation and do other work that you are qualified for in the off season such as maintenance, IT support, sales, marketing, business management and production lead just for a few examples. The more diverse your experience the better. What can you bring to our company?

  • Seasonal Part time – work only in transportation and take time off between shipping seasons. This would be an estimated 30 weeks a year with most of the summer off plus weeks off in the fall and winter which allows you to spend more time with your family.

  • Part time – work in full time in transportation while shipping then work a flexible schedule as needed based on other work qualifications you have that can be utilized.

Salary will depend on your qualifications, experience and whether you choose a full time or part time or a season position.

Job Duties

  • Coordinate and create loading schedules that maximize equipment utilization and efficiency

  • Manage equipment utilization to control or reduce shipping costs

  • Work with Sales Representatives to ensure complete order fulfillment, on-time deliveries and improve customer service

  • Quickly identify, communicate and resolve problems in shipping

  • Recruit, hire and train drivers

  • Dispatch and supervise a group of drivers

  • Maintain a safety training program and monitor drivers to promote safety

  • Monitor compliance with safety and Department of Transportation regulations

  • Audit driver logs

  • Oversee equipment maintenance scheduling

  • Create and maintain up-to-date freight reports

  • Learn to use the industry specific software

  • Work on continuous improvement in efficiency, equipment utilization and cost control

  • Other duties as required


  • Experience is preferred over a formal education

  • A bachelor or associate degree is a plus but not required


  • Ability to work long hours during seasonal shipping

  • Ability to display a high level of patience and professionalism in a fast paced environment

  • Ability to work under potentially stressful situations

  • Ability to use decision making skills to offer options and resolve problems

  • Display a positive attitude, with the ability to inspire motivation and confidence

  • Knack for adapting to constant changes in work environment, work assignments, and sudden changes in priorities

  • Organizational and multi-tasking skills and the ability to prioritize

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Proficient mathematical skills to forecast and calculate shipping costs

  • Must possess strong computer skills and be proficient with Excel, Windows, other Microsoft Office programs and Android mobile

  • Transportation industry knowledge, including terminology and regulations

  • A CDL and experience on the road is a plus, but not necessarily required with enough management experience

  • Ability to understand mileage as it relates to the passage of time, including DOT, speed governance and transit time differences

  • Ability to travel as needed.

  • Travel while training expected but very little to no travel required after training is completed. Travel to conferences and other learning opportunities to maintain current understanding of regulations as needed.
